The generation of martyred intellectuals also wants recognition and honors. They also want opportunities like the freedom fighters. The family members also expressed their displeasure as there was no list of martyred intellectuals in 50 years.
Meanwhile, Muntasir Mamun is also disappointed with the speed of work of the list making committee. Liberation War Minister AQM Mozammel Haque said that verification and selection is going on at the district level now.
Journalist Syed Nazmul Haque was the Chief Reporter of Pakistan Press International (PPI) and City Editor of Dhaka Times in 1971.
The government of Pakistan was embarrassed at that time by his writings. The journalist was taken away from the paltoon’s house on the morning of December 10 to seek revenge.
According to the blueprint for the killing of intellectuals, 18 people including 9 teachers of Dhaka University, 6 journalists and 3 doctors were killed after being abducted. On November 3, 2013, two Al-Badr leaders, Chowdhury Moinuddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan, were sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh) for crimes against humanity.
A committee was formed last year to compile a list of martyred intellectuals. In the meantime, the list of 191 martyred intellectuals has been published in the Gazette. The Liberation War Minister said that now the list of martyred intellectuals is being compiled at the district level.
The Ministry of Information of that time published the list of 1,070 martyred intellectuals published in 1972. And the names of 1,222 people have been found in various researches and books.
The list of martyred intellectuals will be released on March 26, said Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque.
The minister also assured that the Bangladeshis involved in the killing of intellectuals who are absconding abroad would be brought back to the country and brought to justice.
