Law enforcers in separate drives arrested 286 people including 190 leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami from Brahmanbaria, Nilphamari, Jhenidah, Satkhira, Khulna, Tangail and Rajshahi.
The drives were conducted from Monday night till Tuesday morning. In Khulna, a joint team of Khulna Metropolitan Police and District Special branch police in separate drives arrested 115 people including 57 leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different parts of the district.
KMP Jubo Dal organising secretary Jahidur alias Ripon and No 14 ward unit Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Montajur Rahman were among the arrestees. In Brahmanbaria, 88 people including 55 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested from different parts of the district on charge of several cases filed under arson attack.
President of the Ashuganj upazila unit Jubo Dal Faizur Rahman was among the arrestees, said officer-in-charge of district special police branch Mainuddin. In Nilphamari, the joint forces in separate drives arrested 29 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different parts of the district in 24 hours starting from Monday evening till Tuesday morning.
Of them 11 were arrested from Sadar, three from Domar, 11 from Dimla, two from Jaldhaka, one each from Syedpur and Kishoreganj upazilas of the district.
In Jhenidah, police arrested nine activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from four upazilas of the district including Harinakunda, Shoilakupa, Kotchandpur and Maheshpur uapzilas.
In Satkhira, 44 people including 28 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wings Islami Chhatra Shibir were arrested by joint forces team from different parts of the district from Monday night till Tuesday morning.
Of them, 11 were arrested from Sadar, seven from Kalaroa, three from Tala, eight from Kaliganj, one from Ashashuni, 10 from Debhata and four from Patkelghata upazilas of the district.
In Tangail, Police in a drive arrested five people including the president of District unit Jubo Dal Khandaker Rashedul Alam Rashed and four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir from a local restaurant at Old Bus Stand in the town on Tuesday noon.
In Rajshahi, police in separate drives arrested two leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the district on Tuesday. The arrestees were identified as acting secretary of city unit Jamaat-e-Islami Abdul Hannan and Godagari municipality unit Jamaat ameer Mezbaul Haq.
