Staff Reporter :The BNP-led 19-party alliance is scheduled to stage its pre-announced demonstrations in the city and across the country today (Saturday) protesting the law enforcers’ obstruction to their January-29 black flag processions, killing and disappearances of their leaders and activists.The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have not given the permission to hold the programme in the city till filing the report at about 9:00 pm.BNP’s Dhaka city unit member-secretary Abdus Salam said that they on Thursday submitted an application to the DMP seeking permission for a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office or at the Mahanagar Natya Mancha. But the authorities did not give the permission till Friday evening, he said. He, however, hoped that the government would finally allow them to hold the programme. BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday announced the programme. The 19-party alliance wanted to take out black flag processions that day protesting the sitting of the 10th parliament formed through the January-5 ‘farcical and voter less’ elections.Today’s demonstrations will be staged in all the divisional cities, district towns and upazila headquarters also to mount pressure on the government to cancel the elections.Meanwhile, BNP Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi urged the leaders and activists of the 19-party alliance to spontaneously participate in the protest programme to make it a success.
