The Cyclone ‘Fani’ entered Bangladesh Saturday morning with a wind speed blowing up to 88km per hour.
Under the influence of the cyclone Fani the country is experiencing heavy rains and thunder shower.
At least 19 people have been killed and scores injured in the country due to the cyclone.
In Noakhali, two-year-old Md Ismail, son of Abdur Rahman of Char Aminul Haque village, was killed and 30 others were injured in Char Wapda and in Char Jabbar unions of Subarnachar upazila.
Iqbal Hasan, upazila-level government official and also duty officer of Subarnachar upazila control room, said: “A minor has been killed and several others of the family injured when the house collapsed on them during storm.
“Moreover, 30 villagers were also injured as the storm destroyed over hundred houses in the two unions,” he said.
The injured persons were being treated at Subarnachar Upazila Health Complex, he added.
On the other hand, in Char Kakra union of Companiganj upazila, a sixth grader Jhumur died when a tree branch fell on her after she went outside of her house around 7:00am to collect mangoes shaken off by the storm.
District Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tonmoy Das said the deceased was identified as Nazmun Nahar Jhumur, 12, daughter of Abdul Hamid of Char Kakra union.
In Bhola, a woman, Rani Begum, 45, wife of Samsul Haque of Dakshin Dighaldi union in Bhola sadar upazila, was killed after the house collapsed on her during storm on Saturday morning.
Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident, saying hundreds of houses in the district have been destroyed by the cyclone Fani.
In Lakshmipur, a woman, Anwara Begum, 70, was killed in house collapse in Char Algi village of Ramgati upazila yesterday morning, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rafiqul Islam confirmed.
In Patuakhali, a motorcyclist, Habibur Rahman Musulli, 25, was injured when a tree branch fell on him during storm in Manastali area of Kuakata municipality on Friday evening.
He succumbed to his injuries around 11:00pm while undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, said Kuakata municipal Mayor Abdul Barek Molla.
In Barguna, a woman and her grandchild were killed when their house was torn apart by stormy wind in Charduani village of Patharghata upazila around 2:30am on Saturday.
The deceased are Nurjahan, 60, and Jahidur, 8, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jakir Hossain.
In Bagerhat, another woman, Shahanur Begum, 50, wife of Mozahar Hawladar of Ranjitpur village in Bagerhat sadar upazila, was killed after a tree branch fell on her during storm on Friday afternoon.
Jubo League leader Sheikh Alfaz, a relative of the deceased, said: “She [Shaharun] was working in front of the house when suddenly the heavy branch hit her.”
Fakir Kahamuddin, chairman of Khanpur union parishad, also confirmed the matter.
In Kishoreganj, six people, including a seven-year old, were killed in lightning strikes in Mithamain, Itna and Pakundia upazilas as storm hits the area on Friday afternoon.
Pakundia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ilias said the deceased were identified as Sumon Mia, 7, Md Mohiuddin, 22, Rubel Das, 26, Asad Mia, 45, Nurunnahar and Mojibur Rahman, 17.
In Netrokona, a farmer, Abdul Barek, 35, was killed after being hit by lightning in Madan upazila of Netrokona on Friday afternoon, said Madan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ramizul Haque.
In Brahmanbaria, another farmer, Apel Mia, 20, son of Urmuz Ali Mia of Bagdahar village, was killed when lightning stroke him in Nabiganar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday evening, said Nabinagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ranajit Roy.
In Chapainawabganj, a toddler drowned in the flooded village of Kalupur in Gomostapur upazila around 11:00am.
The deceased is Morsalin, 3, son of Saiful Islam.
In Sirajganj, two persons were killed when a heavy tree branch fell on them during storm in Kazipur upazila.
The deceased were identified as Isamil Hossain, son of Sekandar Ali and Bithi Akter the daughter of Bakul from same village Char Vanudhanga.
Kazipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfar Rahman confirmed the matter.
