18 students tortured by BCL at DU dorms in 5 months

Students Against Torture (SAT), a human rights students bodies of Dhaka University (DU) find out a survey on the physical and mental torturing of the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chatro League (BCL) on the students of DU dormitories.
They disclosed the survey report from a press conference held at Dhaka University Journalists Association office on Monday.
“A total of 18 students being tortured within 5 months from 5 October 2021 to 28 February 2022 at different 10 incidents of six dormitories where only three incident have been tried,” according to the survey.
“Three students of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, three students of
Masterda Surja Sen Hall, three students of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, seven students of Sir A F Rahman Hall, one student of Begum Rokeya Hall and one student of Jagannath Hall have been tortured by BCL,” they added in a written statement.
They have referred to the cause of torturing was not attending the political programs of BCL, teaching manners at ‘guestroom’, breaking ‘guestroom rules’ and posting on guestrooms through social media.
“We will represent this survey to the university administration so that they can be taken administrative and legal action,” Saleh Uddin Sifat, founder of the student’s bodies, said.
“Human rights of the students are being violated at public universities. The rate of torturing is highest in the ‘guest rooms’ of residential halls. Which is depriving the students of their education rights,” added in a written statement.
They said, “We have proposed to the university administration to make an administrative rule and law against guestroom torturing. If this torture does not stop, we will go to the vice-chancellor and the High Court.”
