At least 18 students of private-run BGC Trust University were injured in a road accident on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Shantirhat area under Patiya upazila of the district on Wednesday evening.
All the injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), said Roshick Chakma, Nayek of CMCH police outpost.The condition of an unidentified student is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
Police said the accident occurred when a Chittagong-bound students’ bus from BGC Trust University fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering in the area at about 4 pm. Locals and police rescued the wounded people and sent them to CMCH. Police with the help of locals rescued the bus but its driver and helper escaped safely after the accident.
