Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), already under fire over suspected involvement with Narayanganj killings, has taken 18 personnel off-duty in RAB-3 over allegations of embezzlement. Among them is Maj Ali Ahsan, commander of Crime Prevention Company- 3, said a report on DMP news on Monday. DMP News is the online portal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The move comes after RAB-3 arrested four men from Comilla last Friday. The men were carrying Tk 200,000 but RAB only documented Tk 60,000 in its seizure list. Family of the detained men then complained to RAB headquarters about ‘wrongful arrest’ and alleged that their personnel had pocketed much of the seized amount. The eighteen were taken off-duty after that charge. Police said that all personnel of CPC-3, 18 in all, have been taken off. But RAB headquarters has so far denied charges of embezzlement and said it was a routine move to remove the RAB-3 personnel, but for no special reason. — dbnews24.com
