A total of 17,49,165 students out of 21,27,815 have passed in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations.
The number of successful students increased to 1,73,061 compared to the previous year.
The overall pass rate is 82.20 per cent. The pass rate for 10 Education Boards was higher compared to last year’s 77.770 per cent.
The girls have outshined the boys as 83.28 per cent female students passed in this year’s SSC and its equivalent examinations while the pass rate of boys is 81.13.
As many as 1,055,94 students got Grade Point Average (GPA)-5. Of them, 53,484 are females and 52,110 males.
Number of GPA 5 achievers came down to 1,05,594 from 1,10,629 last year.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Monday announced the results at a press conference held in the auditorium of International Mother Language Institute.
Just before publishing the result at about 11:00am Dr Dipu Moni talked with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through tele conference. The Prime Minister is now in an official visit to London.
The PM congratulated the students who have passed. She also asked the students, who were not able to pass for many reasons, to be patience and take preparation for a better examination next year.
Deputy Minister of Education Ministry Mohibul Alam Chowdhury, Senior Secretary (Secondary and Higher Education Division) of the Ministry Md Sohrab Hossain and Secretary (Technical and Madrasa Division) of the Ministry Md Alamgir Hossain and Chairmen of 10 Boards were present at the press conference, among others.
No student passed from a total of 107 institutions across the country. It was 109 last year.
From what could be known so far, one each under Rajshahi, Jashore Dinajpur Boards and two schools under Barishal have faced the debacle while 43 institutions under Technical Education Boards have experienced the same.
Under the eight Education Boards, the total pass rate was 82.8 per cent, higher compared to what was 79.80 per cent last year, result statistics show.
GPA 5 achievers in these eight boards amounted to 94,556, which was lower in comparison to last year’s 1,02,845.
Pass rate in the madrasa Board stood at 83.03 per cent. That of the technical and Vocational Board registered at 72.24 per cent.
Rajshahi Board has topped the results with a pass rate of 91.64 per cent this year.
Jashore Board secured second in performance with 90.28 per cent pass rate and 22,795 GPA 5 holders, detailed results statistics released by Education Ministry shows.
The poorest performance was shown in Sylhet that had a pass rate of 70.83 per cent. Barishal Board was second to last with 77.81 per cent pass rate.
Dhaka Board had a pass rate of 79.62 per cent.
However, Dhaka topped in the number of GPA 5 achievers with 29,687 students the top grade.
In Rajshahi Board, 22,795 got GPA-5, in Cumilla 87.16 per cent passed with 8,764 GPA-5, Chattogram 78.11 per cent passed with 7,393 GPA-5, in Barishal 4,189 GPA-5, in Sylhet 2,757 GPA-5, in Dinajpur 84.10 per cent passed with 9,023 GPA-5, in Madrasa 6,287 GPA-5 and in Technical and Vocational Board 4,751 achieved GPA-5. Meanwhile, the results show that the students performed better in Science with 94.72 per cent pass rate under eight Education Boards.
The students of Business Studies came out successful with 83.03 per cent pass rate while only 74.32 per cent students passed from the Humanities.
The 100 per cent pass rate institutions have increased this year. The all students came out successful from 2,583 institutions, which was 1,574 last year.
This year, 2,135,333 students from 28,682 institutions took the written examinations between February 2 and 26.
A total of 146 schools under Dhaka Board, 431 under Rajshahi, 132 under Cumilla, 138 under Dinajpur, 22 under Sylhet, 275 under Jashore, 50 under Barishal and 30 under Chattogram Board have been able to secure 100 per cent pass rate.
Apart from these, 1,263 institutions under all Madrasa Boards and 96 under Technical Boards have replicated the same.
However, the pass rate of students from centres abroad has declined as 91.96 per cent passed this year while last year the statistics was 93.78 per cent.
From the centres at abroad, this year 423 students participated in the examinations while 389 of them passed and 34 failed. The number of Grade Point Average five achievers is 56 that was 90 in 2018.
