173 union parishads, municipality elections in Barisal div June 21

Chief Election Commissioner said a total of 173 union parishads and a municipality election would be held at first phase in Barishal division on June 21. However field level election officials in this programme expressed fear of violence on election issues.
On this occasion an exchange of views meeting held at Barishal circuit house, with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, election officials, divisional and district administrations and law enforcement agencies at Barishal circuit house on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Jasimuddin presided over the view of exchange meeting and divisional commissioner including police administration of divisional and districts levels were present in the programme.
There regarding the election in Corona time, the CEC said that it is not a coincidence that Corona is expanded due to the election. This could be one of a hundred reasons. In Rajshahi there is no preparation for elections, as more corona infection is more there. But in Barishal there is preparation for elections, as here is less corona infection.
At the time, he said, “Elections held in all countries during corona pandemic period. Election was not stopped there because of Corona, the importance of the election is different and more than Corona. ‘
In the meeting with the field level election officials, the Chief Election Commissioner warned that without considering who belongs to which party, drastic action should be taken against the violators of election rules.
In the meeting CEC also directed to take strict action against the violators of the code of conduct.
He about winning huge number of uncontested said over electing uncontested “It’s better not to hear from me, ‘We are the election manager. It is not up to the Election Commission to decide who will be the candidate or not.
He about the violence in the Barisal division and the inaccessible areas said – it will be ensured by the local administration. In the meantime, they already promised to provide additional magistrates, law enforcement and additional vehicles in these areas.”
Regarding the statement of forty-two eminent citizens, the CEC said, “They have lied. We have already given our statement, which has been published. They made ‘politically motivated’ statements”.
The CEC said about NID that it should be with us, we have put forward a proposal in this regard.
In the programme field level election officials have expressed fears of chaos in connection of the upcoming Union Parishad and Pouroshava elections due to different interests in local politics and internal factions.
They want one magistrate in each union to handle the situation.
Not only that, they want sufficient magistrates and law enforcing forces as needed for violence-prone and inaccessible polling centers.
The officials of the field level election office said that there were situation of violence in some areas. Violence has also taken place in these areas in previous elections. Many times the situation gets out of control due to the inaccessibility, remoteness and riverine region.
