Chittagong Metro Police (CMP) in a drive arrested 17 suspected members of Jamaat-e-Islami, banned militant outfits Hizb- ut-Tahrir and Ahle Hadith, from different areas of city’s Double Mooring thana on Saturday night.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of militants were holding a secret meeting at a house at Eidgah Kancharastar Matha under Doublemooring thana on Saturday evening, a team of police conducted the drive and arrested three suspected militants from there.
Based on their confessional statement, police later raided city’s Jhornapar area under the police station and arrested the other members of the banned militant outfits, said A K M Mahiuddin Selim, Officer-in-charge of Double Mooring thana. Later, a case was filed against the arrestees under the Anti-Terrorism Act, the OC added.
