17 kg gold bar looted from Customs House in Benapole

No one could be arrested till now to loot 17 KG of gold worth Tk 8 crore after breaking the vault at Benapole Custom House. Even the Criminals could not be arrested till now.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury on Thursday wrote a letter to the chairman of the National Board of Revenue asking the DB and PBI to investigate the loot incident. The letter stated that during the Holy Miladunnabi, official holidays and cyclone bulbuls from 8/11/19 to 10/11/19 the criminals broken a safe volt of warehouse and loot 17 kG gold bar in Benapole Customs House. But in the last 11 days, gold thieves could not be identified. Customs House Revenue Officer (RO) Md. Emdadul Haque filed a case with Benapole Port Police on November11. According to the latest report from Customs House , Police, DB, PBI and RAB’s Invented from the customs warehouse, 16588.43 kg of gold, 19230 Rupees and 37000 BDT were looted. All agencies including police, PBI, intelligence, DB, CID, NSI were immediately involved. Their investigation is on going.
A nine members of enquiry team o has been constituted headed by Joint commissioner , Shahidul Islam . Meanwhile, the over all security of custom houses and check posts has been strengthened. Separate sepoy and Ansar have been deployed to guard the volt area in warehouse.
Investigations revealed that most of the stolen gold was deposited in customs warehouses in the 2017 to 2018. At that time 4 Assistant Revenue Officers (ARO) were in charge of the valuable god own. The longest in charge of the volt was ARO Viswanath Kundu.
