Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) rounded up 17 activists of Jamaat-Shibir from a secret meeting at Patenga sea beach area on Saturday for their alleged link in creating subversive activities in the port city newly.
Alamgir Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Patenga thana said, on secret information that Jamaat-Shibir activists in the secret meeting are planning to commit anarchic activities in and outside of the port city, a team of Patenga police conducted the drive and detained them at 3.00 pm.
Locals said, Jamaat-Shibir activists were using the restaurant for many days for their meeting and their organizational training program as they feared of holding meeting in the visual place in the city.
All the detainees were the activists of Jammat-shibir and hailed from various parts of the districts, especially from Sitakunda and Mirsari upazilas of the district, he said.
The detained activists are believed to be linked with acts like vandalism, arson and firebombing of vehicles committed during the last year’s BNP-Jamaat transport blockade and shutdowns, the police official said.
The detainees are Azahar Miah, Mahbubul Huq, Abdus Salam, Najim Uddin, Nurul Huda, Yousuf Miah, Mir Nasir Uddin, Saleh Musa, Selim, Abdur Rashid, Abdul Quadher, Abul Hossain, Abdur Rashid among others.
