Seventeen houses belonging to six families were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Nilkhantho village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
Aminul Islam, no 3 ward commissioner of Belgacha union, said the fire originated from Hamid Mia’s house around 12:15am and soon engulfed the adjoining houses of Rafiqul, Abdur Rashid, Badsha, Hanif, and Saidul.
Three cows were burnt to death. All the goods including furniture and crops were gutted in the fire.
On information, a fire fighting team rushed to the spot around 2am and doused the fire after four hours of frantic effort, said Monoranjan Sarkar, deputy assistant director of Kurigram Fire Service.
