Seventeen policemen were injured in a clash between local people and police over taking possession of a water body illegally in Thubri Shilchand area of Goainghat upazila on Saturday early morning.
The injured include Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Goainghat police station.
Police said Monaf and Raj Mohan (current lease holder) had long been at loggerheads over the lease of the water body in Thubri Shilchand area.
Police conducted a raid on Monaf’s house at Birkuli village adjacent to the water body around 3.00am, being informed that Monaf’s men were getting prepared to take possession of the water body forcibly.
