Chittagong Bureau :
Chittagong city unit Chhatra League yesterday filed a case against 17 persons including Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasin Faruq of Government Railway Police (GRP), Chittagong and Zafar Alam, stationmaster of Chittagong Railway Station, for beating some of its activists last Wednesday.
Ashraf Uddin Titu, assistant office secretary of the organisation, filed the case with Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moshiur Rahman’s court, said court sources.
The court took the complaint into cognizance and ordered Kotwali police to investigate after recording it as a First Information Report, said they added.
The rest accused are Md Mohsin, a booking clerk, two GRP men and 12 members of Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB).
The leaders and activists of the unit locked into an altercation with the booking clerks at the station on Wednesday evening, as the latter were not agreeing to provide over 350 pre-booked tickets to Dhaka.
In the face of the incident, the RNB members charged truncheons on the Chhatra League men, injuring at least five of them.
Later, their fellow leaders and activists vandalised the booking counters and staged demonstration demanding punishment to the persons involved.
As an immediate action, the railway authorities temporarily suspended Zafar, the booking clerk and an RNB member Monir while the OC was sent to forced leave.
