17-BNP leaders, activists placed on remand

A Dhaka court yesterday placed 17 persons including Secretary-in-Charge of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP, Habibur Rashid Habib on 4 days’ remand each in three sabotage cases.
Magistrate Ahsan Habib of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the
orders in the cases after hearing.
Other accused who have been placed on remand include: Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP’s joint Secretary Advocate Faruk-ul-Islam, Assistant General Secretary Moazzem Hossain Khan and Aminur Rahman alias Nayan, Joint Secretaary Md Alamgir Hossain, KM Jobaer Ejaj and Latif Ullah Jafar, Publicity Secretary Mohammad Abdul Hai alias Pallab, Organisational Secretary Rafiqul Islam Russel, Assistant General Secretary Golam Kibriya and Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Chharra Dal member Al Mamun and Deen Islam.
Earlier, the Ramna Police Station sought remand in 2 cases while Shahbagh Police Station sought remand in a case. On behalf of the accused, advocates Sanaullah Miah, Syed Joynal Abedin Mesba and some other lawyers sought bail of the accused cancelling the remand pleas of the prosecution.
