Chittagong city and district police in a series of drives detained 17 activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir from port city and four upazilas of the district last night.
Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of
Chittagong district said police detained 13 activists in overnight raids at various places of Mirsarai, Sitakunda, Lohagara and Satkania Upazilas on Friday night to prevent possible acts of sabotage during country-wide blockade and hartal enforced by BNP-led 20 party alliance.
CMP police also detained four hartal supporters from separate area in the city yesterday.
Among the detainees, five were BNP activists, five Jamaat activists and seven Islami Chhatra Shibir activist, the police officer added.
