Chittagong Metropolitan and district police in a series of overnight drives arrested at least 169 people including 10 Jamat-Shibir activists from different areas in the city and district during the last 24 hours.
Police said the drive was conducted from Thursday morning (June 16) to Friday morning (June 17).
Police also recovered a locally-made Single Barrel Gun, 670 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets and one Kilogram of ganza during the drive.
Reazaul Masud, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Special Branch) of Chittagong district told that 169 including 3 militants were held during overnight raids from 16 thanas of the district.
Of the 169 detained, 151 are warranted convicts , 8 accused in regular cases and three on police case, 3 militants belong to JMB and HT, 3 accused in criminal offense and one were Jamaat-Shibir activists.
Besides, Chittagong Metropolitan Police also detained 100 persons in a series of overnight on Wednesday night to Thursday morning in special drives on the sixth day of a countrywide crackdown on militants from different areas in the city during the last 24 hours.
3 accomplices of Bangla Bhai held : Chittagong district police detained three accomplices of executed JMB leader Bangla Bhai from Sitakundo and Raozan upazila area on Thursday .midnight in separate raids.
The detainees identified as Zulfikar Ali, Alauddin Rubel and Muhibul Alam.Among the detainees, 2 belong to JMB and another of Hijbut Taheri, police sources said.
Sitakunda police rounded up JMB activists Alauddin and Julfikar Ali from Kumira area of the upazila and these two JMB were released from jail custody recently on bail .
After release from jail, they again start JMB activities, sources said.
On the other hand, Hijbut Taheri activist Mohibul Alam was rounded up from Yasinnagar village under Raozan upazila on samenight by Raozan police, sources added.
These detainess are shouldering several cases of violance and subversion in respective police stations, sources said.
Additional Police Super of Chittagong district police Rezaul Masud confirmed the matter to media adding, those three worked as cohorts to Bangla Bhai, later they worked to strengthen their power of Bangla Bhai in their locality.
The detainees are expected to be produced before the court today.
