Police, in special drives from Monday night to this morning, arrested 60 persons, including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami with 500-gram of ganja from seven upazilas of the district.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district. During the drives, 18 were arrested by sadar police with 100-gram of ganja, Kalaroa police 8, Tala police 8, Kaliganj police five accused, Shyamnagar police 10 including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Assasuni police seven with 400-gram of ganja, Patkelghata police two and Debhata police two accused.
UNB from Jhenidah reports: Police in a special drive on Tuesday arrested 57 people from different parts of the district on various charges.
Additional Superintendent of Police Azbahar Ali Sheikh said police conducted a drive in different places of the district from Monday night till Tuesday morning and arrested them on various charges.
UNB from Nilphamari says: Police in a drive arrested five leaders of Jamaat-e-Islamiwhile they were allegedly holding a clandestine meeting at South Deshibai village in Jaldhaka upazila on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Professor Saber Ali, ameer of the upazila unit of Jamaat, Kamaruzzaman, reporter of Daily Sangram, Rasheduzzaman, ammer of Kathali union unit of Jamaat and its leaders Jamiar Rahman and Maulana Akbar Ali.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jaldhaka Police Station, said based on secret information, a team of police conducted a raid at the house of one Jamaat leader Hamidul Islam and arrested the five men while they were holding a secret meeting there in the morning.
BSS from Narail adds: Police, in special drives from Tuesday night to this morning, arrested 56 persons including four absconding convicted accused on various charges from three upazilas of the district. District police sources said they were picked up from different areas of the district. Narail Sadar thana police arrested 19 including one absconding accused, Lohagara thana police 20 including two absconding accused, Kalia police arrested seven including one absconding accused and Noragati thana police arrested 10 accused.
