Around 16,750 rural youths, including 11,725 females of 15-29 age group, have started getting empowerment and entrepreneurship privileges through multidimensional promotional activities in Puthia upazila of the district.
Of them, 2,000 youths will be imparted either three or six-month need-based vocational and technical training and job placement for improving their living and livelihood condition.
UCEP Bangladesh will provide the training. It was revealed at a meeting titled “Formation and Orientation of Youth Specific Group at Union Level” held at Puthiya Union Parishad hall room yesterday.
A five-year project titled “Empower Youth for Work” organized the meeting where a 30-member youth apex body was also formed.
More than 40 people, including upazila level officers and public representatives, attended the orientation sharing views on how to make the youths a competent workforce through implementing the project successfully.
Agriculture Sustainable and Socio-economic Development Organization (ASSEDO), a national level voluntary development organization, is implementing the project with financial and technical supports of Oxfam and UCEP Bangladesh respectively.
During his project-briefing speech, Rabiul Alam, executive director of ASSEDO, said the project intends to promote socio-economic empowerment of the beneficiary youths. To this end, linkage will be developed between the youth entrepreneurs and various financial institutions including banks.
The project will extend support to four union digital centres for updating a database of the youths so that any interested person can avail the scopes of getting their profiles easily.
ASSEDO Project Coordinator Ohidul Islam presented concept paper detailing the project objectives, activities and outcomes.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazma Nahar addressed the meeting as chief guest while Upazila Fisheries Officer Shahed Ali and Union Parisahd Chairman Atahar Ali Shah took part in the open discussion.
The discussants hoped that the project will contribute a lot to transforming the youths into worthy citizens so that various social crimes like child marriage, violence against women, drug-addiction, terrorism and militancy are eliminated from the society for ever.
