1656 cases filed, 84 vehicles detained

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) during the last three days filed 1656 cases against CNG-run auto-rickshaws for not running their vehicles with meter- in the city. A total of 325 cases were filed on Tuesday for not installing meters or not registering the vehicles with police, BRTA sources said.Besides, police also seized 84 CNG auto rickshaws during the drives on last three days.
Mohammad Shahid Ullah, Deputy Director of BRTA told medial that the move would continue against the meter-less taxies as well as the vehicles without registration. “The combined teams of BRTA and police are on the road to take action against taxies which are yet to affix the meters,” he added. CMP will also file more cases, if any driver or owner of CNG auto- rickshaws violates the rule of installing meters in his respective taxies, he added.CMP and BRTA sources said CNG three wheeler owners and drivers are violating the directives of CMP grossly.
