161 more passengers from UK land in Bangladesh Monday

Another 161 passengers from the United Kingdom landed in Bangladesh on Monday amid the spread of a new strain of Covid-19 in that country.
Of the passengers, 144 landed in Osmani International Airport of Sylhet by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. And 17 passengers landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Nasrin Akter, a doctor at the health desk of HSIA, told the media. After health screening, all passengers were allowed to go home as they had Covid-19 negative certificates.
“But they will have to stay in home quarantine for 14-days,” added Dr Nasrin.
Several health experts have opined for suspension of air communication with the UK after a new strain of Covid-19 was found in the country.
At least 40 countries have so far suspended air communication with the UK, according to media reports.
Bangladesh government said they are yet to take any decision on suspending air communication with the UK.
State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali recently told media that the highest level of the government along with concerned ministries are closely monitoring the UK situation and will take decision according to the developing situation.
Earlier on December 24, one hundred and sixty-five passengers including five infants who landed at the Sylhet Airport from the UK by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ flight were allowed to go home following their health screening and as they had Covid-19 negative certificates.
In the same flight of Biman, another 29 passengers landed at the Dhaka Airport. Two of them were sent to institutional quarantine at Diabari in Uttara.
