A 16-year-old slum boy was beaten to death by mob suspecting him as a water pump thief in the morning at Charshirampur village in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district early Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sagor Ahmed, son of Mohammad Shipon Mia, living in Mymensing district town.
Gouripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain said, that a hatchery owner caught Sagor with the help of locals suspecting him as a thief in the morning.
“They tied Sagor with a pole and beat him severely. As Sagor fainted, they took him away by an auto-rickshaw. Police recovered Sagor’s body from a bush near the hatchery at 11:00am,” the OC said.
“Those involved in the heinous incident will have to be brought to book soon. The accused went into hiding after the incident,” the OC said.
Douhakhola UP Chairman Shahidul Haque said that he saw the blood-stained boy’s picture on mobile phones of some locals.
Shipon Mia said that his son went to collect scraps on Monday morning but did not return home. Later, he was informed about the recovery of Sagor’s body from a bush.
