Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) walloped at least 16 students of Rajshahi University and different colleges suspecting their involvement with Shibirmen.
Among them, nine including seven RU students were handed over to police. They were later admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
The detainees were identified as Md Tuhin of Islamic Studies Department, Mijanur Rahman of Cultural Dept, Rahmatullah, Monirul Islam, Tanjim of Islamic History and Culture Dept, Arifur Rahman of International Relation Dept , Yakub of Management Studies Dept , Tonmoy of Rajshahi City College and Golam Rabbi of Lokhnath High School.
Sources said, sixteen suspected Shibir men were holding meeting near the Shaheed Minar around 3pm with fresher’s of different institutions. BCL men suspected them as Shibirmen. They were taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Halls room numbers are 228 and 231.
After torture nine of them were handed over to Boalia Police Station around 6:30pm.
Golam Kibria, President of RU unit BCL said Shibirmen were planning subversive activities.
University Proctor Prof Dr Lutfor Rahman said, hearing he rushed to the spot and with help of BCL men, nine suspected Shibir men were handed over to police. Besides, getting no involvement, seven students were tread.
Shahadot Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station said, BCL men handed suspected eight Shibirmen. They are now under treatment at RMCH.
