Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives in the city’s Mirpur and Khilkhet areas and arrested 16 members of a fraud gang on charge of cheating people providing government jobs in the name of different ministries and directorates in exchange of money from the job seekers.
The arrested are Linkon alias Masum, 43, Md Hasan Zia, 44, Md Sakir Ali alias Shakil, 36, Jannatul Ferdous Rasel, 33, Md Selim Sarder, 43,
Sheikh Zakir Hossain, 40, Md Abdul Quader Sharif, 33, Md Humayun Kabir, 50, Md Khalilur Rahman, 42, Md Ismail Hossain, 36, Md Rakibul Islam Samrat, 25, Md Abul Hossain, 28, Md Keramat Hossain Sojib, 38, Rubel Biswas, 33, Md Kamruzzaman, 40 and Md Saiful Islam, 26.
The elite force conducted the 13-hour drives in Mirpur and Khilkhet area of the city from 3pm on Monday, said Additional DIG of RAB-4 RAB media centre on Monday morning.
The members of the fraud gang swindle money from the people after publishing government circulars and introducing themselves as top officialsf the institutions, said Chowdhury Monjurul Kabir, Additional DIG and Commander of RAB-4.
They had already cheated 160 people and took away 150cr from them, he added.
Legal actions had been taken against them, according to him.
