The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sued 16 officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on allegation of corruption that made the state exchequer incur a loss of Tk118 crore in cargo handling.
ACC filed the case against them with the anti-graft watchdog’s Integrated District Office-1 in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter.
They have been accused of being involved in corruption and abuse of power from 2012 to 2017, leading the state to incur the loss, he said.
Soon after the filing of the case, a team of the commission led by Deputy Director Nasir Uddin arrested two of the accused in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area on Tuesday afternoon, Pranab said.
The arrestees are Ali Ahsan, former director of sales and marketing at the state flag carrier, and its Assistant Manager (export) Iftikhar Hossain Chowdhury.
The accused are Shahidul Islam, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Lutfe Zamal, Musharraf Hossain Talukder, Rajib Hasan, Nasir Uddin Talukdar, Anup Kumar Barua, KN Alam, Monir Ahmed Mojumdar, Shahjahan, Fazlul Haque, and Sayeed Ahmed Patwary. All of them were former assistant managers (Trade).
Two other accused are Acting General Manager (cargo) Arif Ullah and Assistant Manager (export) AKM Monjurul Haque.
