UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Thursday alleged that the 15th constitutional amendment was a ‘naked manifestation’ of a high-level conspiracy to re-establish one-party rule in the country.
“Ex-Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque helped the government move towards a one-party rule. It was a naked manifestation of a high-level conspiracy to re-establish the one-party rule which current Chief justice SK Sinha clearly exposed before people,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He came up with the allegation at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
The BNP leader alleged that Khairul Haque driven by his greed had written and the ‘controversial’ judgement that declared the 13th constitutional amendment illegal and singed it after his retirement.
“He (Khairul Haque) took Tk 10 lakh from the Prime Minister for his medical
treatment and became the Law Commission chairman after his retirement from a very important post of Chief Justice. That’s why he annihilated democracy and snatched people’s voting right by annulling the caretaker government system,” Rizvi claimed.
BNP reinforced its claim that writing and signing the judgment of the 13th constitutional amendment by Khairul Haque several months after his retirement was not lawful as the current chief Justice Sinha in a message recently said some judges make unusual delays in writing verdicts while others continue to write it even long after their retirement, which goes against the law and the constitution.
Earlier on Wednesday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain also raised the same issue referring to Sinha’s comment. At the press briefing, Rizvi alleged that though Awami League cadres together with police jointly attacked the students of a Brahmanbaria madrasah, a case was filed against 44 people, including district BNP president and general secretary in connection with it.
