The Department of Fisheries and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations have distributed 15 metric tonnes (MT) of fish feed among the coronavirus and flood ravaged 150 fish farmers as an emergency support in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Monday.
The distribution was made at a function held under the Community-based Climate Resilient Fisheries and Aquaculture Development project in Bangladesh with the arrangement of the office of the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
On the occasion, a discussion session was held with UNO Md. Mehedi Hasan in the chair while Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Akhtaruzzaman moderated it. It was also addressed, among others, by Dr. Md. Abul Hasnat, National Coordinator, FAO; Md. Ahsan Hasib Khan, Senior Assistant Director, Department of Fisheries, Sylhet; Md. Abul Kalam Azad, District Fisheries Officer, Sunamganj; and Umme Kulsum, Climate Change Expert, FAO.
Later, Alhaj Ataur Rahaman, chairman of the Upazila Parishad handed over 100 kgs of fish feed among each of the listed fish farmer. Besides, carrying cost of Tk 1000 was also distributed among the fish farmers at the function.
It is to be noted that the project is being implemented by the Department of Fisheries with technical assistance from the FAO and financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
