Customs officials on Thursday night seized around 15 kg of gold from an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Acting on a tip-off, officials of Dhaka Customs House searched the aircraft of the national flag carrier that landed at the airport around 6pm from Bangkok.
The customs officials started the search after all
the passengers disembarked from the plane and recovered gold bars from a toilet of the aircraft in an abandoned condition.
The gold bars were left at the toilet in several bags wrapped with scotch tape.
Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House Sohel Rana said the counting of the recovered gold bars as well as the search in other parts of the aircraft was going on till filing of this report around 10:15pm.
The recovered gold weighs around 15 kg and is worth about Tk 7.5 crore, he added.
