155 tons rice seized in Ctg, 5 held including Silo Manager

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 on Tuesday seized seven trucks loaded with 155 tons of government rice allegedly stored for selling in the market and detained five persons including an official of the Food Department.
A team of RAB-7 on secret information raided a godown belonged to Kabir Majhi adjacent to City Gate and found seven trucks ready for loading 3,096 sacks of rice allegedly stored from government depot, said Ashiqur Rahman, deputy commander of RAB-7.
One of the detained persons was Pronoyon Chakma, manager of Central Storage Depot (CSD) at Halishahar, while the others were truck drivers and helpers.
Meanwhile, A case has been filed against five people, including the government silo manager, over the seizure of seven trucks loaded with 155 tonnes of rice.
Nayek Subedar Jahir Uddin of Rapid Action Battalion-7 filed the case with Halishahar Police Station on Tuesday night.The elite force also handed over the detainees to police.
Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) at the police station, toldthat the accused will be produced before the court today .
The arrestees were manager of LSB Food Silo Pronoy Chakma, Shamsul Huda, Mizan, Shafiul Alam and Osman, 45.
