Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said 15,000 doctors will be appointed within few months aiming to improve the country’s health sector.
The minister came up with the announcement while addressing a discussion at the auditorium of Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Health and Family Welfare Ministry arranged the discussion marking the World Health Day 2019.
Speaking as the chief guest, Maleque said around 5,000 physicians will be recruited within two months. “After their recruitment, I hope, we would be able to appoint 10,000 more doctors,’ he added.
Noting that 150 new intensive care units (ICUs) will be installed in different hospitals of the country soon, the health minister said the government is working to ensure healthcare for all.
He said currently about 60 percent healthcare services are being provided at private hospitals at high cost and urged the owners of the private hospitals to cut the cost of treatment.
