Over 1500 professionals, especially physicians, lawyers and engineers, will be brought under close monitoring of tax officials to check tax dodging.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has started preparing a list of the professionals who are suspected to have been evading tax for a long by concealing their real incomes, NBR Chairman Md Ghulam Hussain told BSS.
“I think we’re not getting income tax from professionals . . . I have asked our officials to look into whether the professionals are paying properly,” said Hussain.
“According to our observation, around 1000 physicians, 500 lawyers and 100 engineers across the country are not paying tax properly,” the NBR chief said.
All NBR commissioners have been asked to investigate the earnings-expenditures and payment of tax of those professionals who are on the NBR’s watch list for concealing their actual income, he added.
Tax files of those professionals are being collected from their respective tax circle, Hussain said, adding that their bank accounts information will also be sought for examination.
“Their day to day incomes will also be inspected,” he added.
