1,500 militants arrested since Holey Artisan attack: RAB DG

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested more than 1,500 militants since the attack on Hotel Holey Artisan at Gulshan in Dhaka, said Director General of the RAB Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, reports UNB.
He revealed the figure on Friday, the 6th anniversary of attack, after paying tributes to the ‘Dipto Shopoth,’ a sculpture built in honor of two police officials killed at the Holey Artisan militant attack six years ago at Gulshan.
The RAB chief said RAB has arrested some 3,000 militants so far. “We have arrested more than

1,500 militants since the Holey Artisan.” Notable among them are the mastermind Amir Sarwar Jahan, financier and planner Shariful Islam Khaleque and Mamnoor Rashid Ripon.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said, “We’ve dismantled the networks and destroyed the dens of militants conducting combing operations against the militants at different times in a coordinated manner.”
The RAB chief said, “We took control of the entire area some 12 hours after the Holey Artisan terrorist attack. We created an atmosphere to conduct operations. Militants broadcast live online the Holey Artisan attack. We have identified them and took action against them.”
The RAB DG also mentioned that they were working for de-radicalisation of militants. “We have already deradicalised 16 militants. We have been maintaining close contacts with them constantly so that they don’t get involve in militancy again. We are continuing the task.”
“Bangladesh has achieved enviable success in curbing militancy and terrorism,” Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said, adding that “we have also maintained the continuity of suppression of militancy. We are monitoring the militant activities in the cyber world. All law enforcement agencies are working together to curb militancy,” he said.
