A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive seized more than 150 tonnes of jatka (hilsa fry) from a fishing trawler on the Karnaphuli River in the city on Thursdayafter noon.
Based on a secret information, a team of RAB-7 along with the officials of the District Fisheries Office and Coast Guard conducted the drive in the fishing trawler nearby Karnaphuli Ferry Ghat and seized the jatka, RAB officials said. Sensing the presence of the law enforcing agencies, the workers of the trawler disappeared.
Later, the law enforcing agencies seized the catch and the trawler.The seized fish were distributed among the orphans of different orphanages and students of various madrasas of the district in phases. Earlier on Monday, the RAB members along with Coast Guard in another drive arrested 15 people and seized around 50 tonnes of jatka from the same spot.
