150 jungle pirates of Sundarbans surrendered in 10 phases

Sundarban forest is the biggest mangrove forest in the world and its major portion is situated on the south west coastal region of Bangladesh.
 It is a blessing for the country as its saves the region from various natural calamities like tidal surge and cyclone.
It is full resources like valuable trees and plants, fish of as many as 120 spices, different kinds of shells, cons and honey. About 20 to 25 lakh people are directly dependent on Sundarban forest, according to survey done by UNCED-14. This large population includes commercial and industrial enterprises development dependent on forest production. But due to the jungle pirates the forest resources cannot be collected properly.
The forest resources are mainly collected by Bawalis (wood, Gol leaves and straw collectors), fishermen and Mawals (honey collectors). The jungle pirates torture and kidnap those people to realize hand some amount of cash Taka from the as ransoms. In many cases when they (collectors of forest resources) fail to pay the ransom jungle pirates kill them (collectors of forest resources) and loot their every thing. Not only that but also they smuggle forest resources like cut band Sundari trees, kill the wild animals of the forest like tiger and spotted deer for smuggling. But no Government could subdue them completely.
The present Government played a tremendous role with the help of law enforcing agencies, particularly RAB in subduing them by applying both force and convincing them to forgive piracy for good and return to normal life. Not only that but also the surrendered jungle pirates are being provided with cash Taka and other facilities. As many as 190 jungle pirates belonging to (big or small) 17 notorious gangs of Sundarban forest have so far surrendered either to the Home Minister or to the law enforcing agencies ceremonially with the promise of giving the piracy for good and return to the normal life in 11 phases during the last 21 months (from May 31, 2016 to January 16, 2018).
On January 16 , 2018 as many as 38 members belonging to three notorious gangs of jungle pirates of Sundarban forest-‘Bara Bhai Bahini’ led by Md. Abdul Wahid Molla (49), ‘Bhai Bhai Bahini’ led by Md. Faruk Morol (30) and ‘Suman Bahini’ led by Md. Jamal Sharif Suman (42) to Asaduizzaman Khan Kamal, Home Minister in Rupatali headquarters of RAB-8 in Barisal . At the same time the jungle pirates surrendered 38 fire arms and 2,969 live ammunitions to the minister. All the surrendered jungle pirates belonging to 3 gangs of jungle pirates including their leaders were handed over to Mongla PS in Bagerhat district by Sayeeduzzaman and Afzal Hossain, Deputy Director, RAB-8 on the same day in the evening. They also registered 2 separate cases with the PS against the jungle pirates.
Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, OC of PS said that on the following day the jungle pirates were sent to the jail hajat at Bagerhat through the court.
On May 31, 2016, some 10 jungle pirates belonging to Master Bahini, a notorious gang of jungle pirates of Sundarban forest led by Mostafa Shaikh alias Kader Master (48) surrendered to RAB along with 52 fire arms and 3,904 ceremonially for the first time.
On July 14, 2016, as many as 11 jungle pirates belong to Manju Bahini and Ilias Bahibnni along with 25 fire arms and 1,020 live ammunitions to the law enforcing agency.
On September, 2016, some 14 jungle pirates belonging to Alam Bahini and Shanto Bahini along with 20 fire arms and 1,800 live ammunitions.
On October 19, 2016 as many as 13 jungle pirates belonging to Sagar Bahini along with 20 fire arms and 677 live ammunitions surrendered to RAB.
On November 22, 2016 , some 12 jungle pirates belonging to Babu Bahini led by one Alamgir Shaikh alias Khoka Bbu along with 22 fire arms and 1,105live ammunitions to RAB.
On June 06, 2017 as many as 12 jungle pirates belonging to Noa Bahini surrendered to law enforcing agencies along withy 20 fire arms and 1,800 live ammunitions.
On June 29, 2017 as many as 20 jungle pirates belonging to Jahangir Bahini surrendered to RAB-8 along with 31 fire arms and 1,507 live ammunitions.
On March 30, 2017 some 15 jungle pirates belonging to Choto Raju Bahini led by Md. Jahangir surrendered to RAB along with 21 fire arms and 1,203 fire arms.
On April 29, 2017 as many as 25 jungle pirates belonging to Alif Bahini and Kabiraj Bahini surrendered to RAB.
On November 01, 2017 as many as 20 jungle pirates belonging to Majnu Bahini and Majid Bahini surrendered to the law enforcing agency along with 33 fire arms and 1,329 live ammunitions.
At last on January 16, 2018 some 38 fire arms and 2,969 live ammunitions ceremonially surrendered to the Home Minister in RAB-8 headquarters in Barisal.
130 jungle pirates who surrendered earlier to the law enforcing agencies were given cash Taka and some prizes ceremonially by The Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in a function held in Bagerhat Shaikh Helal Uddin stadium on August 23 in the year 2017. Each of them was given cash Tk 50 thousand, a bank cheque of Tk 1 lakh and some complementary gifts of Eid-ul-Azha in order to rehabilitate them.
