A clash was ensued between the workers of a factory and police personnel on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Madanpur under Bandar upazila of Narayanganj district on Saturday morning where at least 15 workers were injured. Moving all types of vehicles on the road was disrupted for almost one hour, police said.
The witnesses said that the workers of Partex Particle Board factory took control of the
Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and staged a demonstration demanding pay hike in front of their factory at Madanpur at around 6:30am.
Police rushed to the spot after getting information and dispersed the workers from the road, they said.
The angry workers claimed that at one stage of chase and counter chase, the police charged baton to disperse the demonstrators, triggering a clash that left 15 people injured.
Bandar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akhter Morshed rejected the allegation of police baton charge over the workers and said the workers hurled brick chips at the law enforcers. But, police did not charge baton and none received injuries during the protest. A team of additional police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control at around 8:00am.
A negotiation meeting was held between the workers and the factory authority, the police official said.
