15 war crimes cases pending for appeal hearing

As Al Badr commander Mir Quasem Ali is waiting for his review plea against the Appellate Division judgment to be heard on July 25, another 15 war crimes cases is waiting in line for appeal hearing before the apex court.
Although many of the convicts were mid-level or even grassroots criminals, they terrorized their neighborhoods by their monstrous acts.
Of these, there are cases against Jamaat nayeb-e-ameer Mawlana Abdus Subhan of Pabna, fellow Jamaat man ATM Azharul Islam from Rangpur, Mobarak Hossain from Brahmanbaria, Syed Mohammad Kaiser from Habiganj, Engineer Abdul Jabbar from Pirojpur, Mahidur Rahman and Afsar Hossain from Chapainawabganj, Sheikh Sirajul Haque and Khan Akram Hossain from Bagerhat, Forkan Mallik from Potuakhali, Ataur Rahman Noni and Obaidul Haque Taher from Netrokona, Shamsuddin Ahmed from Kishoreganj and the case against Mohibur Rahman alias Boro Miah and his cousin Abdur Razzak from Habiganj. Of these 15 appeals, the state has pleaded to sentence Jabbar, who had been handed down imprisonment till natural death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 considering his age, to death.
The other appeals were lodged by the convicts against their sentence by the tribunal. Meanwhile, the defence as well as the state has pleaded to review the Appellate Division judgment that had commuted death sentence of Delwar Hossain Sayedee to life imprisonment. Their pleas are yet to be heard.
The Appellate Division so far disposed of five review pleas, followed by the execution of Matiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mozaheed, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah.
