A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested seven members of a criminal gang from the city’s Kawla on Sunday night.
The arrested men have been identified as M Quashem alias Jibon, Ibrahim Khalil, Zakir Hossain Sumon, Billal Hosain, Abdul Mannan, Sohag and Arif.
The elite force also seized a foreign pistol, a magazine, two bullets, two handcuffs, a walkie-talkie, a microbus with sticker of RAB and some other materials, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director to Legal Media Wing of the Headquarters of the RAB.
The arrested persons, impersonating RAB men, used to target clients of different banks and abduct them for snatching money, the RAB official said.
They confessed to the RAB that they committed at least 13 crimes , including robbery, snatching and extortion, the RAB spokesman said.
They targeted the men who withdrew money from banks. The miscreants picked up them in microbuses by identifying them as RAB personnel and threw them from the cars after taking money, according to him.
Meanwhile, police arrested eight members of a fraud gang from Savar early Monday, after six days of mugging introducing them as detectives.
Saidur Rahman, Additional Superintend of Dhaka district, said that a fraud gang snatched away over Tk three lakh from trader Sabbir Hossain on the Dhaka-Aricha highway on October 30 introducing them as Detective Branch (DB) of Police.
Later, Sabbir filed a case with Dhamrai Police Station on that night.
Police arrested the eight from Nabinagar and Bishmail areas, the police official said.
