At least 15 persons including five in Rajbari were killed and 60 others seriously injured in several road crashes across the country on Wednesday.
In Rajbari, at least five people were killed and 30 others injured in a face to face collision between two buses in Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari district on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the deceased was identified as Farman Ali Mandal, 70, from Majhgram in Kumarkhali of Kushtia.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Rajbari Hospital and Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
A Kushtia-bound bus of Lalan Paribahan and local bus Arif Exclusive collided head on in Durgapur area on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway at about 3:30pm, leaving two dead on the spot.
Rajbari Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Shawkat Ali Joardar confirmed the matter.
In Jessore, at least three persons including two motorcyclists were killed in two separate road crashes in Abhoynagar upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 27, Sujat, 30 and Jamal Hossain, 44.
In Cox’s Bazar, a man and his son were killed and three other family members injured as a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Chakaria upazila of the district early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as the auto-rickshaw driver Nurul Alam alias Nuru, 32, a resident of Khutakhali union in the upazila and his son Manur Alam, 8. The injured are: Nuru’s wife Moykun Nahar, 22, her younger son Abdur Rahim and Nuru’s cousin Nurul Alam. Of them, condition of Moykun and Abdur Rahim is critical. Locals said, a bus of ‘Saudia Paribahan’ hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on which Nuru alongwith his family was returning home around 12:30 am, leaving two dead on the spot. The injured were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Malumghat Highway Police outpost in-charge sub-inspector Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.
In Netrakona, two people were killed after a lorry rammed into an auto-rickshaw in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona. The deceased were identified as Kaiyum, 55, and Jamal Munshi,58.
Confirming the matter, Kalmakanda Police Station Officer in-Charge Md Mazharul Karim said the bodies were sent to Netrakona Sadar Hospital morgue.
In Naogaon, a man was killed and another injured after a truck hit a motorcycle in Atrai upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Deceased Babu, 40, hailed from Prannathpur village in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura.
