At least 15 people, including five members of a family, were killed and about 20 others were injured in separate road accidents in several districts on Friday. The injured people were admitted to several local hospitals, police said.
In Bagerhat, at least five persons were killed and five others injured in a head-on-collision between a passenger bus and a pick-up van in Fakirhat upazila of the district in the afternoon.
The victims were identified as Nil Komal Das, 45, his brother Boloram Das, 35, his nephew Shyam Das, his brother Panu Dash, and pick-up driver Nuru Mia, 38, said Abdul Mannan Forayeji, Officer-in-Charge of Katakhali Highway Thana.
He said that, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Khulna collided with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction around 2:15pm in the area, leaving five people dead on the spot.
All the victims were passengers of the pick-up van, the police official said.
The bodies had been sent to the district Sadar Hospital, the OC said.
In Comilla, two persons were killed when a bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
Mainamati Highway police OC Awal Miah said that a bus struck a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 11:15am, leaving two passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and three others injured.
The injured people were admitted to Upazila Health Complex, the police official said.
In Rajshahi, three young motorcyclists were killed in Tarapur area under Puthia upazila in the afternoon.
The victims were identified as Sumon, 26, Hasan Apon, 27, and Shuvo, 29, said Puthia Thana OC Khan Mohammad Shahriar.
Meanwhile, a child was killed when a sand-laden truck ran over him at Mokterpur in Charghat upazila in the morning.
The victim has been identified as Mridul Hossain, 9, son of Shahidul Islam, said OC Alamgir Hossain.
In Barisal, a man was killed when passenger bus rammed him at Rakudai in Babuganj upazila in the district at noon.
The victim has been identified as Abdur Rauf Munshi, 70, said SI Shawkat Hossain of the thana.
In Shariatpur, an old woman was killed when a motorcycle hit her at Kotapara in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The victim has been identified as Chehara Bibi, 78, said Monirul Islam, OC of the thana.
In Pabna, a man was killed when a microbus rammed a vehicle near the LGED of the district town in the afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Monir Hossain, 28, said Ahsanul Haque, OC of the police station.
Two other people also received injuries in the accident, the police official said.
In Jessore, a motorcyclist was killed when a bus ran over him on the Jessore-Kushtia Highway at Satmail in Sadar upazila.
The victim was identified as Humayun Kabir Jewel, 30, son of Abdur Rashid, SI Tubin Hossain said.
