15 injured in Rupganj BCL-JL clash

A fierce clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League (JL) in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj in the small hours of Thursday where at least 15 people were injured.
Police said, the clash erupted between two groups over establishing supremacy in the area. Both the two groups tried to take hold of the possession of Bucharbag Fair at Tarabo Municipal area.
The injured were taken to several local hospitals instantly.
Later on, the injured Jubo League man Mubarak Hossain 40, received at least four rounds of bullets on his head, chest and leg, shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) when his condition deteriorated at a local hospital.
Quoting the locals, Rupganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Islam said that the clash created when Jubo League activists-led by Rubel Hossain and BCL activists-led by Sultan Mirza engaged in a clash over establishing supremacy on Bucharbag Fair in the area.
Following the incident, the two rival groups, equipped with firearms and sharp weapons engaged in a series of clashes in the area. At one stage, the area termed into a battlefield where at least 15 people were severely injured. The locals rushed to them in several local hospitals.
The injured Jubo League activist Mubarak who are wounded received four rounds of bullets admitted to DMCH in a critical condition.
Four persons were detained to interrogate in this connection. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation following the clash, the OC said.
