At least 15 people were injured by dog bitung in Baraigram of Natore district. The incident took place in Bharatpur, Mahmudpur, Bagdob and Rayna villages of Baraigram upazila on Tuesday. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals. As of this writing, the number of people injured in dog bites and attacks is increasing. The incident has spread panic among the locals and there have been reports of miking from dogs for safe movement of people.
According to the Upazila Health Complex and local sources, the injured were identified as Mubarak Hossain (50) of Mamudpur village in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Emon (12), Fuljan Begum (45), Hafeza Begum (42), Saiful Islam (18) of Bagdob village, Rokeya Begum (55) and Subrata Sarkar (60) of Rayna village have been admitted to Baraigram Hospital. Besides, Tula Begum (50), Kawsar Ali (10), Shahidul Islam (60), Soad (12), Anjuara Begum (72) of Rayna village and Himu Khatun (12) of Mahmudpur village have been treated at different clinics. Besides, two others were injured by the dog biting and were taken to a local doctor for treatment. The dog’s bite caused injuries to the hands, feet and face of the injured.
Locals also said that dog infestation has increased in the area. However, the relevant vaccine is not available in the Upazila Health Complex. Dogs need to be killed by government initiatives.
Upazila Health and P.P. Officer Dr Khurshid Alam said, The patient who were bitten by the dog was coming to the hospital. But we are giving first aid because we do not have rabies vaccine. Some of the injured are buying from outside shops while others are going to Natore Sadar Hospital to get vaccinated. He added that there is a government ban on killing dogs. However, in order to prevent the spread of rabies through dogs, the dogs will be vaccinated to control the disease.
