At least 15 dwelling houses were gutted in a fire in Gashiyapara area under Chawkbazar thana in the city early on Wednesday. Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chittagong, said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a dwelling house in the area around 1.15 am and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses.
Six firefighting units from different areas in the city rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 3.30 am.
Victims claimed that the fire damaged property worth about Taka 10 lakh, the source added.
