Chattogram district administration has chalked out a 15-day program from August 1-15 to observe the National Mourning Day and the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district administration held a preparatory meeting at its conference room recently with deputy commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ilias Hossain in the chair.
Police and RAB officials, freedom fighters, heads of government departments and educational institutions, politicians and civil society members were present in the meeting.
The 15-day program include Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion, poetry recitation, essay and quiz competitions on life and works of Bangabandhu, film exhibition, playing of the historic March 7 speech, offering special munajats, bringing out a mourning procession, blood donation and food distribution among the destitute people.
On August 15, the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions, and wreaths will be placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Chittagong city, north and south district units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organizations, socio-cultural and literary organizations, educational institutions and professional bodies will also take elaborate programs to mark the day.
Meanwhile, Raozan upazila AL and its front organizations will oberserve the mourning day with religious fervor. Milad Mahfil , Quron Khawni and feedings to the destitutes has been arranged at every Union council premises on August 14 beside Upzila based large congregation of mourning day will be held at Raozan Govt College ground where arrangement for feeding 10 thousand peoples is under process, Jubo League President Jamiruddin Parvez said. Local legislator ABM Fazle Karim chowdhury MP will grace the occasion as chief guest. Before attending the college function , he will pay visit in every UP programs of the mourning day, sources said.
