Some 15 bottles smuggled foreign wine were seized along with a jolly boat from the jetty No.1 area of Mongla Sea Port by the coastguards on Friday afternoon (at about 2-30 pm). But Bellal alias Khomeni Bellal, smuggler and the owner of the boat managed to escape.
Lt. M. Mozaharul Islam, Detective Officer of the Coastguards of the Western Zone deployed at Mongla disclosed, acting on secret information that Bellal smuggled out 15 bottles of foreign wine from a foreign ship staying at the Mongla Port and reached jetty No.1 area by a jolly boat a contingent of the coastguards raided the area. But sensing the appearance of the coastguards smuggler Bellal and his associates fled the area leaving the wine and the jolly boat there. Then the coastguards seized 15 bottles foreign wine and the jolly boat.
In this connection a case was registered with Mongla PS against Bellal who has been living in a rented house at Shamsur Rahman Road within Mongla Pourashava for long period of time. He is the son of one Aziz Kerani halis from Noakhali district.
