15 BD men detained in Vietnam

Vietnam police on Wednesday detained 15 Bangladesh is from Ho Chi Minh City area.
After detention in the morning, they were taken to a camp. Some detainees talked to Bangladesh media from the camp.
It is learnt that the Bangladeshi citizens left Vung Tao for Bangladesh Embassy in Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon. They stayed Ho Chi Minh area at night. The Bangladeshis were detained when they boarding on a bus this morning.
They told media that they have been trying to contact Bangladesh Embassy for last few days to go back the country.
Earlier, they had informed that the brokers took their passports soon after reaching Vietnam.
They were not given the proper job and salary promised by the agents. Under the circumstances, the Bangladeshis wanted to go back their country.
Fourteen, out of 15 detainees, have been identified as Sayef, Shafique, Chand Ali, Momin, Quadir, Ismail, Ali, Nazrul, Mamun, Shaheed, Anwar, Raju, Amik and Sajeeb.
A number of detainees went to Vietnam through an
agency named Port City International.
They had been promised to pay US Dollar 500 monthly salary and the recruiting company would bear their expenses for food.
But, soon stepping in Vietnam, the Bangladeshis understood that they were deceived.
The victims alleged that although they had worked in different places for sometime, but did not get salary.
The brokers had taken away their salaries and some of them even were tortured when demanded wages.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Embassy denied information about Bangladeshi detainees in Vietnam.
Mohammad Salam, Personal Officer of Bangladesh Ambassador in Vietnam, told media,” We did not aware about detention of any Bangladeshi.”
Meanwhile, 11 Bangladeshis returned home empty handed from Vietnam on July 3.
