UNB, Cox’s Bazar :
A case has been filed against 149 leaders and activists of BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami under the Special Powers Act for allegedly planning acts of sabotage.
Sub-inspector Sujon Chandra Majumdar of Sadar Model Police Station filed the case on Sunday against 19 named and 130 unnamed BNP-Jamaat men.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Md Farid Uddin Khandakar claimed that BNP-Jamaat men demonstrated in the Fire Service area of the district town around 4:50am on Sunday and torched a vehicle. Police arrested one of the demonstrators from the spot while others fled, he said. The case was filed as the BNP-Jamaat activists were planning to carry out acts of sabotage ahead of the upcoming general election, the OC claimed. Meanwhile, BNP central leader and former MP Lutfar Rahman Kajal alleged that the case was a fabricated one filed only to harass the BNP men.
