Distribution of 1,462 tonnes rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme continues in the district to assist the poor in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, official sources said.
The government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the huge quantity of rice for over1.46 lakh poor and distressed families in all nine upazilas and 14 pourasabhas in the district.
As per direction and supervision of the district administration, the concerned upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees have been distributing the rice among the listed VGF Card holder families.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Mojibur Rahman told BSS that distribution of the VGF rice will be completed by July 14 next so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Each of the selected beneficiary family has been getting 10 kg VGF rice each on the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity in all 71 unions under nine upazilas and 14 pourasabhas in the district.
Under the programme, 1046 tonnes of rice is being distributed among 1,04,657 VGF Card holder families in the upazilas while 415 tonnes among 41,549 families in the pourasabhas.
Meanwhile, the concerned upazila administrations have started allocating the rice in favour of the Union Parishad and Pourasabha to prepare list of the beneficiary families for distribution among them before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, the DRRO added.
