Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said the government recruited 14,577 physicians from 2009 to 2016 for reducing shortage of doctors at public hospitals.
“Activities on appointing more physicians are underway to fill in vacant posts through BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service),” he said this on Thursday while replying to a starred question from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal member Nazmul Haque Prodhan of Panhagarh-1 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The minister said only public hospitals have been giving treatment to all types of patients at a minimum or free of cost and as a result the hospitals are facing an extra pressure of patients.
“High officials of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry and Health Directorate make surprised visit to all district hospitals, medical college hospitals and specialized hospitals and monitor activities aimed at stopping all types of corruption and ensuring doctors presence and highest service,” he said.
Besides, directors concerned and district civil surgeons monitor to all district hospitals/upazila health complexes for ensuring healthcare services to patients, Nasim informed the House.
