1445 hectares of land brought under potato cultivation in Sylhet

A total of 14,45 hectares of land have been brought under potato cultivation in Sylhet district this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the department has fixed a target to cultivate potato on 14,98 hectares of land during in the current season in the district.
Cultivation of potato has gained momentum as farmers are giving their full efforts to make the potato farming in all time record in the district.
To achieve the success this season, district administration is constantly monitoring the overall progress of potato farming and smooth supply of fertilizers, pesticides and other necessary agro-inputs to farmers.
DAE Officer Vupes Chandra das told that necessary measures have been taken for cultivating hybrid variety of potato aiming to produce a record quantity of potato this season.
For this, DAE, BADC and different non-government organisations also distributed adequate quality seeds, other agro-inputs and provided necessary technical assistance to the farmers, he also said.
At the same time, government and private banks, including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayon Bank, have been disbursed loans among the small and marginal farmers for the programme a success.
Farmers of the district are happy getting fair price by selling the newly harvested potato.
Potato is being sold at Tk 2,500 per bag (85-kg) in the local markets, the DAE also added.
